Obnoxious man

Just the thought of my upbringing is a subject I avoid remembering. I'm 32 now and live in NJ but grew up in rural Texas just outside of El Paso. It was me, my sister Hanna, my mom and step-dad Richard who was a slob and complete pig. My mother married him when I was 3 and Hanna was 5, after we were abandoned by my father. I still don't understand why my mother put up with Richard since he is the most obnoxious person I have ever known. He worked for a large oil company and was filthy dirty after work. At the outside of our back door was a shower but only a nozzle with no enclosure. This is where my sister and I had a small swimming pool and swings where we played most days. He just stripped down naked and showered in front of us. My mother at first tried to stop him but to no avail. There was no doubt my mother was afraid of him as were we. Unless we had company Richard was always in his underwear or a bathrobe, without the underwear, often open in the front leaving him exposed to us. He also had no regard for my sister or my privacy and often would walk in on us while we were undressed or bathing. When very young it never occurred to me what an erection was or how he would masturbate if my mother wasn't around. By the time I was in my teen years is when he was at his worst. He intentionally intruded on our privacy and took every opportunity to see Hanna and I naked even invading out privacy while using the toilet. If my mother was out he often came out of his room or bathroom naked and was never shy about us seeing him masturbate. It was so common my sister and I would laugh about it. There weren't many other houses around but we did have a few girlfriends who Richard exposed himself to many times and also saw him masturbate. My mother only worked mostly part time jobs but he took advantage of anytime she was out of the house. If we had a friend or two over when he came home from work he would still strip naked and shower out back. There was never a time however when he tried to molest me or my sister although he gave us little or no privacy at times. When Hanna was 19 she moved out and got a job in Austin and it was only 7 months later that my mother found Richard dead in the bedroom. He had a fatal heart attack and was only 58 years old. We couldn't afford to keep the property so we moved to NJ where my aunt Lilly lives and I've been here ever since. My mother died 3 years ago and after Richard died my mother would get mad if I said anything derogatory about him. My aunt finds it hard to believe what I have said about Richard. She says my mother must have known he exposed himself to us and allowed it to go on. Richard was absolutely the most uncouth and immoral man I have ever seen. I can honestly say that when he died I had no sympathy or sadness. It wasn't that he treated me and my sister badly because he was always supportive and generous financially. He was a sick exhibitionist and voyeur who got pleasure having us see him masturbating.
